James Hayes Exhibit

James Hayes was instrumental in the founding and nurture of the Colorado Calligraphers’ Guild. Examples of his work and the materials he used are now on exhibit at the Colorado School of Mines. The following is an update from the museum.

Many months ago one of your members made a wonderful donation of pigments from the late James Hayes to the Mines Museum. I am happy to report that we have finally used many of these pigments in an exhibit at the Museum, “Minerals on the Artist’s Palette.” We have featured several of Hayes’ pigments, specifically those that would have been derived from minerals. In addition, several of Hayes’ hand lettered labels are featured.

We’d like to invite any of your members who might be interested to come to the Museum at 1310 Maple Street in Golden, CO to see the exhibit. The Museum is open Monday-Saturday from 9am-4pm and Sunday from 1-4pm. Parking is free on the weekend. Admission is always free of charge.

Additional information about James Hayes and photos of the pigment collection with his hand-lettered labels is available by clicking this link.
